At the age of 24, the musical talent ,creativity and energy heard in DeRico’s music is far beyond his years. Born February 6, 1988 in Portsmouth, Virginia , a gift of music was born to Roxane Copeland (DeRico’s mom). Born to a musically inclined family, “DeRico” quickly became involved in the arts and found his passion for performing , composing,and producing while singing in the church choir,performing in plays, and learning to play various instruments.
DeRico’s cousin recognizing his talent and energy suggested that he “write a song to sing in a studio”. Encouraged by a supportive family and under the roof of strong grandparents, in Mid-August of 2002, “DeRico” entered the studio for the first time where he says “it all feels so natural .” Since recording that first song at only fourteen, “DeRico’s passion was clear and for the past 10 years, “DeRico” has been singing and writing non-stop preparing for the audience that awaits.
“DeRico ” describes his song writing, composing . producing and performing as “relaxation ” taking his mind and spirit to places he desires. While preparing for a journey sure to come, “DeRico” has continued to obligate himself to many activities to include choir rehearsals (where he plays piano), business coaching sessions and providing public service throughout his neighborhood, all which contributes to “DeRico’s” dynamics sense of structure at this early age.
Citing artist that include Donny Hathaway, Jamie Foxx, Music Soul Child and Usher, DeRico’s” music is soulful, playful and down to earth. DeRico’s goal is to reach the souls of a diverse audience whose common denominators are….. Harmony …..Soul……Rhythm and Passion.
